Why does my 96 dodge ram 1500 start and idle for a bout 30 secs and will die plus if I give it any gas it dies right away.

Asked by smileyjt73 May 07, 2012 at 12:52 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the fuel pump, coil, IAC vavle, coil, cap, and rotor.  The fuel filter and pressure regulator come with the new fuel pump, so they are new also.

Have the battery load tested. There can be enough voltage to start the vehicle, but the computer can be confused with the low voltage. Exhaust can also be plugged, just drop the pipes down from the manifolds and see what happens.

you may want to check with a noid light if your injectors are polsing. You could have a modul out of it depending on the system. i would also check fuel presser at the line and make shore its at spec.

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Check for fuel pressure on fuel rail of about 50 psi. If you used Airtec fuel pump look again to fuel pump. I've had more than three brand new Airtec pumps be bad right out of the box. Two of them were on Dodges.
