why won't my truck start?
Asked by Joshua Dec 15, 2013 at 08:24 PM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a '96 ram 1500 5.9, cranks but won't fire up. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor,
coil...fuel pressure at rail is good, but no spark when I checked for spark on the plugs.
Ran fine one day, then the next day it just wouldn't start. Been below zero temps
everyday for 10 days straight, (pretty much since this has happened.) Put a bottle of
Heet in the gas tank also. When I checked the fuel pressure at the rail, gas came out
kinda yellow.

could also look like this~ this measures the temperature at the intake plenum and enriches or leans out the fuel/air mix...

a couple of sprays of "starting fluid (ether)" doesn't kick it over~?
haven't tried starting fluid...did try a little gas, but it didn't start still. Would this also cause lack of spark?
your battery probably doesn't have enough cold cranking amps to start the truck. just because it spins the starter, doesn't mean the battery has enough power to start. how old is your battery? if you can jumpstart the truck, take it to a parts store where they can test your battery and charging system. if you can't jumpstart it, pull the battery and have it tested. most parts stores do this for free.
the battery is fine, charged it today, and it wouldn't jump start at any point. spark plugs are not sparking...

it would be the crank position sensor. That would fix ya
I'm having the same problem my truck was running going down the road and shut off checked all fluids plugs wires fuel filter nothing seems to work.
alright now i'm only gonna say this once don't listen to all these yaahoos blabberin nonsence theres a wire behind your dash if it ain't connected thats your problem.
