1996 ram 5.9 o/d off or on?

Ok... so I have a 1996 Dodge ram 5.9 4*4 sport. I
have had it for 10 years, I should know this but I
dont. What is the O/D off do and when should I use
it? I need simple answers I am a simple person. I
don't know names of anything I usually call them
thingys when I work on my truck.

O/D is overdrive, keep it on for normal driving. If you're towing something the engine is lugging or tranny is shifting up/down trying to find the gear to be in then turn OD off. If the load is reasonable and you're on a flat grade you can tow in OD.
