Mechanics ripping me off?
They say the computer is fried after replacing fuel
pump, distributor, seems kinda legit .however i get
in my car and the lid from the fuse box under the
steering wheel falls to the floor. Is there maybe a
fuse that they could have tampered with to
simulate those effects

If you don't trust your mechanics get a second opinion.
It should only take 5 to 10 minutes to check all the fuses. Replace them all if you need to, just use the correct amp fuses.
Computer fried? That answer alone would send me bolting out the door. Fly-by-wire control systems (a computer) allows aircraft computers to perform tasks without pilot input. IF BOEING TRUSTS HUNDREDS OF LIVES TO A COMPUTER then they must be reliable. Not to say they can't be damaged if something shorts or by physical damage. Consider your hand as being controlled by a computer (brain) .. if U bang a finger then the other 4 fingers still work ..u simply lose use of that finger until it's heals /// same in a computer (of course it doesn't heal) but it needs only that part replaced ,, modern ECU's have dozens of outputs that are easily replaced .. but you must know what you are doing. After all// if a janitor with good intentions tries to do Heart surgery .. all the "good intentions" in the world are not going to prevent him from killing you
