f250 four wheel drive

i have a f250 supercab diesel 4*4. the other day i got stuck in sugar sand. i placed the veh in neutral and switched it to 4 wheel drive high and low. the truck would never go into 4 wheel. i had to get a chevy to pulled me out. what's up with this?

the ford 4wd is only "partial" one front one back (oppisite wheels), I stopped using ford truck (for off roading) because of this. unless you have a "upgraded" 4wd system, both my fords were like this, one was a 90 and one was a 01. but you might have a problem with your 4wd, get it checked out. My buds 06 F250 4x4 will turn all 4 wheels, but he had some work done to it.
Yeah you will have to get that checked out... it also might just be that your heavy and dont have the right tires. I have Nitto Dune grapplers which are made for sand but my 1999 is so heavy it has a tiny bit of trouble sometimes but not very often.
Shame on you calling a Chevy to pull you out! lol You have to put the transmission into reverse to engage the 4 wheel drive. It's in thr owner's manual
