Dome/Pickup bed lights

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey, I have a '99 F-250 Super Duty PU & randomly, the dome & bed lights
just come on & if I don't notice, it drains the battery! Is there some kind of
timer ('cause I notice that the light takes a few seconds to turn off when
shutting the door) that could go bad somewhere? Where would that be?
This doesn't happen all the time and the light is always off when I leave the
truck- but happens randomly. Right now, it is happening constantly and is
rather maddening as you can imagine! Anybody had this problem before?

If your doors are not closed all the way the lights will come on. It is also possible that you have a faulty door switch.

Thanks Full. That's what I thought at first too. I swung by Ford and a service manager said that they see it a lot and it is usually caused by leaking windshields! Water gets into the electronics and can screw up many different things. And guess what? My windshield does leak! That's why it is fine for 6 months or so and then when it rains, the problem starts again. It just rained! I never connected the two before! I turned the heater on to dry off stuff on the freeway and now it's fine again. Luckily I did not start replacing things, because that would have never solved the real problem! So, I'm off to get a new windshield that's sealed properly! Thanks again for your response!
