Miata's are notorious for having the fuel smell after driving. There is a panel inside the trunk which hides your fuel filler hose and vent hose. One of these hoses may have come loose or even dry rotted cause fumes to escape into the trunk and cabin of the car. There are several write ups on how to fix the issue on Miata.net. Heres a pic of what the hoses look like with the panel removed.
