transmission dip stick

Question type: General

how to take off the dip stick of transmission

1 Answer

well first start up the motor. as I recall, most transmissions like to be checked running. there are two sticks, one for the motor and closer to the firewall the other stick...the transmission. You may have to twist left and right to dislodge it, then pull straight back, there will be some hash marks "full" and "you overfilled it dummy" If I remember right there are six quarts of the automatic. Now if this is a manual transmission, we've a new can of worms. On the side of the transmission there is a 3/4 plug. with the car off uncrew this plug. You ought to be able to touch the oil. If you can't flll with whatever the book calls for.
