My Volkswagen beetle service engine light comes on and sometimes it gives two different codes. One is a heating and cooling low performance, and the other is a low exhaust performance. Any ideas on why it is throwing two different codes?

How do I check the actual operational temperature? Sometimes when the check engine light comes on it reads that its the heating and cooling low performance and other times its the low exhaust performance. Shouldn't it be both codes every time instead of just one.

It doesn't give a number just a low exhaust performance and heating and cooling low performance.

On most scanners there is either a code or there is a code before the explanation. What are you using to pull the codes?

I took it to Advance Auto Parts and they put it on the scanner that they have. And I also took it to the car lot where I bought it and that is all that they are telling me.

I haven't changed anything yet cause the part store is telling me it could be a lot of different thing arranging from thermostat to water pump to a o2 sensor to a catalytic converter.

Yeah.. The auto parts stores are bad about that (Advance is really bad about it). You have to ask them for the codes. Have them write them down for you. They will do it. Auto-zone will even print them out.
