audible tones at 39 and 23 degrees Fahrenheit

Asked by Guadzilla Jan 10, 2008 at 10:55 AM about the 2002 Volkswagen Passat

Question type: General

Does anyone know why my 2002 Passat makes an audible tone when the thermometer detects an outside temperature of 39 or 23 degrees Fahrenheit?  The temperature display on the console flashes, and the car chimes once.  It drives my wife and I crazy.

Thanks

that should be involved in a ice warning system in the car.could be ice in that range but below theres ice so no tone.

Yes, it's alerting you to possible ice danger. You may be able to have it turned off by a dealership, the BCM controls this function.

Why at 39, and then at 23 again? They seem like pretty arbitrary numbers, I could understand if it went off at 32 degrees.

anytime you are in that range you could expierence icy conditions.abouve the temp and no ice below the tone you should know theres ice.
