I have a 2000 VW Jetta.  The engine light came on the other day, when I am at the light the rpms goes down and acts like it wants to die, but then they come back up.  Today I was driving down the road and the engine turned off and the check engine light and battery light came on.  What could the  problem be.

diagnose first, maybe your throtle position sensor is worn out. try to check also the airflow sensor.
