99 Vw jetta automatic

Asked by Xoprincess07 Dec 09, 2017 at 05:44 PM about the 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

Question type: General

I have a 99 vw jetta automatic and for
some odd reason every winter when it gets
cold out it decides to give me a hard time
starting up, eventually it will start but takes
some time, sometimes it will even shut off
while I'm driving if I don't let it sit long
enough to heat up, I had ignition coils
replaced already and was told possibly fuel
pump, and suggestions? Thanks

well considering the fuel pump is built for the cold as fuel is a peaty cold substance Its likely not the pump. if its a problem with cold starts in colder weather tho you may be experiencing a bad piston rings have the cylinders checked for compression they should all be equal its al togeather possible your battery is going bad as well. A battery lasts 10 years max if you are lucky and with most cars they last 5 years before they act up. Have the cranking amps checked on your battery to make sure its still good.

its altogeather possible the starter could be going bad. On the cars of your age bracket the points wires tend to rot off and then stop working. Signs is ussaly a weak cranking power happened on my 1998 audi the wire simply broke off one day and my car wouldn't do anything
