Good buy or not?

I hope it is really cheap as that is a lot of miles.

I had an old 1978 Rabbit until 199,000 miles, YES, it was still running, sold it to a college student... We put a lot of money into that car to keep it going, but, it got tired near the end, and there was nothing we could do to improve the rough ride....I would pass on this if I were you.

Even though it has the new timing belt and water pump, our car was perfect in this respect as well, there's a lot of things to go wrong once you pass 175,000 miles. What's the asking price? Under $1,500 , maybe. If it lasts for one year, $1,500 is worth it.

Mark, can't believe you had something other then a Subaru?

There are better high mileage cars out there than a VW. Something made by a Japanese company would be more desirable than this VW.

Save your pennies and get something better

COMETGUY61-. This is my first Subaru, purchased it certified pre- owned in May 2014.... Other cars were two Honda's, two VWs, several American, GMs, few Ford's, Chevy, , two Oldsmobiles, Buick, Toyota Prius, a Volvo and one Plymouth from the 60s..., SO, I've had a number of cars. Right now, I like my Subaru Outback... It's responsive enough for me, I really don't need a rocket or sports car. It's got a very comfortable ride and gets decent fuel mileage for a large car. Would I consider a newer model??? Don't know. A lot of stories about oil burning issues, but, you know, that story is not exclusive to Subaru.. There's a great story out there called "The Thirsty 30"... Look it up.. It's a real thing... Everyone loves to bash on Subaru, but their sales statistics keep rising every year... That has to tell you something... People do like these cars. On the other hand, VW screwed all their clients, lied to the Federal government, got caught cheating on the emissions, the bottom fell out of the market on these cars.... Had two VWs, NEVER again....
