how much will a new carburator cost for 1997 Golf?

just bought a P reg golf, only 67,000 on the clock. Drove it once and now it won't start. Almost gets there but will not actually start. Could it be the carburator? Quite a smell of petrol when I try to start it.

you could try the VwVortex forums. They have helped me with alot of my issues. Post your chassis code, as 1997 seems late for a Carburator Golf..

I am having the same problem now with my adz engine and mine a 1997 golf CL it's something to do with the fuel not being let into the carby So it makes it way to it but doesn't actual spray into the motor dunno if it's the electronic injector is blocked or busted or if there's just a break in the wire that sends a signal to the ecu letting it know how much fuel to mix with air ratio but dunno
