Will a 97 golf tranny work and fit in 96 jetta?

If the engine is the same the tranny will work unless it has been swapped out before you bought the car, but if the engine is different you can still use the other transmission but you will have to leave the pressure plate or torque converter (if automatic) with the engine it came with and swap out the input shaft as they are a different thickness between 2.0L and 1.8L. As you can see unless the engines are the same its easy but if different you should know what your doing before tempting. If they are both automatic transmissions but different engines then you have to take the flywheel with converter/trany for complete swap.
