changing the motor would consists of having to change the computer and all of the wiring harnesses..of course you would just have to splice into the lights and interior..but to legally do this you have to consult a titling agent....its a quite a task i replaced the motor in my 99 ford taurus and i found a motor out of a 97. and i even had to change over the wiring harnesses on the motor becuase it was not just all plug and play...it seems they change little things yearly..and breaking the millennium i know every manufacture used it as a gen. point
yes it is possible. go visit vw forums like vwvortex and ask around there. it isnt much more than swapping with a vr6 either, just the wiring is more complicated
Swapping in a 1.8t into a mkIII is not that difficult, and not necessary to swap in a new harness and ECU....Reflex Tuning out of New Hampshire has kits that allow you to do it while keeping the 2.0 harness and ECU using a software update...and implements a distributor that can be adapted to the motor and doing away with the coil packs. If you search for the username REFLEX TUNING on the VW Vortex website, you can contact them for more info.
