where is the gas tank release on a 1992 vw golf, to put gas in the gas tank?

can not figure out how to put gas in tank, where is the lever to open it?

It opens when you open the loks on the car. If it doesn't open it must have the lock motor damaged, you can open it removing the upholstery from the trunk and when you see the motor pull the actuator's cylinder to release.

My 92 Jetta had no gas door release mechanism. How would a Golf have one?

Some rare very well equipped versions do. It's just a solenoid that activates to lock or unlock
