Hood

did you pull the lever just to the left of the clutch? if you did that then did you push back the manual release hook in the front center just under the hood?

if you have WD-40 handy spray it through the grill where the hood hook is right above the VW then go inside the car and on the driver side of the car right to the left of the clutch peddle near the fuse box pull the hood release then once the hood pops push the hood release back in that should do it
