Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a 1990 VW Cabriolet with some issues today. oil light and buzzer go off when
car revs past 2000rpm. I replaced both sensors and fixed nothing. could it be my oil
pump? I also noticed that the bar gauge  maxes out when i start the car and stays that
way while driving. the low pressure sensor on the head has a blue and black wire with
a rubber cap attached and the high pressure sensor on the oil filter flange has a
yellow... seems opposite to all the photos im looking at. thanks

Be sure you don't have the sensors swapped...they look very similar. This is a common issue with the Mk2 oil pressure sensor circuit...if you're handy, you can install a tee and oil pressure gage to verify pump performance.

Upper sensor is the low pressure: 028 918 081D Lower sensor is the high pressure: 056 919 081E Some diagrams show both a high and low switch up on the head assembly...hopefully, you have a maintenance manual.

i feel like the wiring is wrong. i think the previous owner tried to change the sensors and mixed the connections up there is one wire not even connected to anything.
