This can depend on the climate where you live and your driving habits. If you live in the southwest (dry heat), I would change it about every 50k to 60k. Anywhere else you could easily wait until 70k to 90k. Of course, if you drive your car hard I would change it sooner rather than later. Breaking a timing belt can cause unrepairable damage to your engine.

Its around 60-75k, I know mine was done around 89,xxx but its around 110k now and there isnt any problem, so I think youre safe almost anywhere below 100k to change them.

For the 1992 960 with the 6 cylinder engine, every 20k miles, unless it has the tensioner upgrade on the exhaust cam, then every 30k miles. Sorry about the bad news. This is from the factory...

For your '92 the factory change interval was 20K miles. There was a TSB from Volvo and the work should've been done which retrofits a new damper which allows the 21mm belt to be installed and reduces the cyclical load on the belt and the interval is then 30K miles - same as the 1993 models. 1994 saw a 23mm belt and some revised pulleys to allow for 50K miles changes. 1995 and up (to '98 when the B6304 engine was discountinued) saw a 28mm belt for a 70K miles change interval. The short answer is to change it at 20K miles unless you KNOW FOR A FACT that the TSB (technical service bulletin) was performed, in which case it's every 30K miles. The B6304 engine is an interference engine, which means that if the belt breaks, your pistons will impact the valves and very expensive damage is likely to occur.

Mark, You were very helpful in answering the timing belt change matter. The question I have is, do you know what pulleys would be replaced with the 23 mm belt? I saw that Gates came out with a blue belt for the model and change.
