My mechanic changed the transmission fluid on my 2004 Mercedes Benz E-Class and now if I'm on Sport the transmission gets stuck on the 1st gear.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On Comfort, it changes gears but jumps occasionally. After asking a trans shop, they
recommended a total transmission rebuild. Is it possible that it isn't the transmission but
something else? Is a trip to the dealer worth it to get another opinion?

I agree with Tom - how long since last transmission service? According to MB - the number one reason for transmission problems is lack of service every 36k miles. Why MB requires every 36k service and many other cars only require service at 100k miles is a mystery to me. Good luck

Something I read from MBworld. drop trans pan, drop valve body, swap over valves in to new conductor plate and install. nothing gets done to the etc. fill with aprox 4.5 qts of fluid, clear the faults and youre good to go. as a tech i can get it done in about an hour. shouldnt take longer than 2 hours to do. change your pilot bushing while youre in there. Thanks for your response Tom. I was just doing preventive maintenance before a long trip. The transmission was fine before the fluid was changed.

Take it back to your mechanic, tell him it was fine before he touched it and you'll sue his ass if he doesn't sort it at his expense lol

My car is with automatic transmission. It happened to me as well. The reason was amount of oil. It's shown 7-8 liters is enough. I did add a liter more (9 liters). And it worked luckily.
