I suspect the battery and cable as it attaches to the chassis is corroded, that is to say batteries will not take a charge 10%/year...a five year old battery is at the end of it's life~ get a new battery, assure corrosion free connection to chassis, and to motor this zero gauge 1/0 battery cable~ get all connections fresh and disassembling to clean for ten-fifteen minutes will have the latent charge what may affect the diagnostics erased~ the new battery will put you right~

and removing the negative cable...setting it aside...put on and off the a/c, pump the brake pedal five times...then put the cable back on did not resolve this, or you haven't tried this experiment yet?

there is something called "latent charge" which may be present, and this activity is to get it to discharge~
