where are the id numbers located for the 340 engine

I think the engine id is stamped onto the front of the block, left (drivers) side. Have you checked the fender tag? That too will have the relevant codes you're looking for.

I believe passenger side just above the oil pan in the middle. Won't have the full VIN but should have about 8 digits, matching the sequence # in the VIN.
