I have a 72 challenger I am going to start restoring, how can I verify it is a matching #'s car, it is a 318, 4 gear car with a new "frame" out of Texas, I bought it 3 years ago and want to do something with it, the motor needs rebuilt but came with a set of X and J heads, am I better to keep it original?

There is a pad on the lower drivers side of the block that will have the last 6-8 digits of the serial number on it. New frame??? These are unibodies so I would look at that very carefully to make sure it was done right. Maybe even have it checked at frame shop. I think you have to notch the top of the cylinders to get 202 heads to work in a small bore 318. You can keep it original or throw a 340 in it and keep the 318 around just in case. I think the 340 or 360 is the better option for value.
