turbo or supercharger

both will boost horsepower considerably, and both will create a lag to the engine, just like the AC its just another thing that will run off the engines power, with a turbo, and if you have the hood space, you can conceal it within the car, and you may have to make modifications to get the turbo to run off the exhaust properly, in the end id say a supercharger just for the sake of keeping the muscle car look i would go with the supercharger, i dont know about you but every time a muscle car is mentioned a picture of an all American car with a giant supercharger popping out of the hood comes to mind. both will be a good dip to your pocketbook but you wouldnt have bought this classic beauty if you didnt have the headroom right?, but there can be consequences, if you ever look to sell (God forbid) you will narrow your crowd of who wants to buy by having a giant manifold popping out the hood of the car, and if this is your everyday car be sure to think about gas prices too. in the end your lucky to have any choice at all...

depends on what you want, a turbo will add more overall power, but it will come "on" at a higher rpm, and the motor should be built to suit the higher rpm range. a supercharger tends to make more power at a lower rpm, has less lag, but less over all power. superchargers make less power at the same boost because it takes engine power to turn the charger, plus its not as efficent as a turbo. another thought, with a supercharger you dont need to worry about hot shut down, as it stops with the engine, a turbo can keep on spinning and cook the oil in the turbo, causing catastrophic failure. you need to let a turbo engine idle after being run hard to let the turbo cool/slow down.

With small turbochargers there is less lag but lag nonetheless. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/supercharger2.htm I have a 71 Chevy Nova I am rebuilding and have a 2 inch cowl induction hood which will most likely not have enough clearance to put a supercharger on top so I will either get a plain hood and cut a hole in it; or I will get a off center supercharger such as a twin screw supercharger or centrifugal supercharger.

If you want power go turbo if you want torque go supercharger. The easy way out is supercharger. It takes a lot less time to put on and is a lot easier to tune. Turbos will give you more power but if your not willing to invest the time into doing it right and tuning out all the imperfections its a waste of your time and your going to tear apart your motor anyways. I'm a turbo guy myself I've got a 03' SRT-4 that is stock turbo charged and a 96' Neon with a 2.4L turbo swap. It took a while to get the tuning right on the 2.4 but it was completely worth it in the end. With all the other modifications done to it it does 9s and with the motor you have, if you plan on making a true muscle car you COULD do 8s.

Blower would be the coolest and probably the most horsepower.
