i lost all power to my car how do i find the shortage ??

the car just cot off and did not start back up as if the battery was dead. i pushed it up on the the dolly to take it home and it came on but did not start what do i do???

Check to make sure that the negative battery cable is tight and grounded cleanly to the frame. Inspect your underhood fuse box to make sure that the main fuses are not blown. Test the battery to see if it is holding a charge, and check the charging system to make sure alternator output is sufficient to keep the engine running once it is started. From there, you should have a clearer picture of what the problem might be. You may also want to check the ignition switch to see if there is a problem there.
