Why does my 1988 dodge Dakota se, turn off sometimes when I put it on reverse and start backing up or driving forward

They already change fuel filterand or fuel
pump . basically i know itvhas nothing to do
whit the fuel..

the motor mounts and/or transmission mounts have it so reverse causes a high-tension wire to short....kaput...so take a look at the motor mounts with a woodblock and floorjack...when they separate....replace them...problem solved~ https://www.google.com/#q=1988+Dodge+Dakota+motor+mounts&tbm=s hop

Thanks hopefully that's the issue. ..what u think about putting a diesel engine on it I already seen a trucknlike mines on you tube whit a Cummins 4bt
