is the 275 hp rating on the 71 340 true

Asked by rusty43212000 Jul 16, 2010 at 01:05 AM about the 1971 Dodge Dart

Question type: General

1 Answer

255

No it's not. Before 1972, a car's horsepower was "gross"- meaning it was measured with the motor on an engine stand with no exhaust, air cleaner, fan, and so forth. Starting in '72, it was measured with all of those items installed and is much more accurate. Still not wheel horsepower, however.
