vinyl top replacement

got a 74 dart custom and this is my first project car.  originally an aircraft mechanic and not sure what my options are with vinyl.  can i take it off and paint the sheetmetal or do i need to replace the vinyl.

you have a couple of options, you can either die the vinyl top thats on the car to the color you want or to hide stains....or you can probably find someone that'll replace it for around $150...around here we have a guy that'll come to your house and do it for $175....remember you're going to have to fill in the trim and screw holes if you peel it off and try to paint it...also the vinyl die actually works very well...heres a pic of how mine turned out with a $12 spray can of vinyl die!
