How much would an engine for a 1986 Dodge Lancer cost?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My car has been acting up lately, and a co-worker has me doom-and-gloomed into considering alternatives to repair--what would a replacement engine cost me, vs. what could possibly be costly repairs to my older engine?

Really, really depends on what the problem is that would cause you to think of replacing the engine. However, check out www.car-part.com for junkyard engines, or you can check Advance Auto Parts, etc., for a new rebuilt Jasper unit with a 3/36 warranty.
My mechanic looked at it today (and changed the oil) and though obviously a cursory glance cannot possibly give us a certain answer or analysis, he seems not so concerned about the performance loss I have experienced over the last couple of weeks--much more concerned that there is a good deal of metal stuck to my magnetic oil thingy. (the part you unscrew to let out the oil). He said the particles are very fine, which is good, but something in the engine is wearing, which is bad. But for the time being, he thinks a tune-up will work wonders--I am relieved about that, but thanks for the info just in case down the road I need to consider that new engine.

Why would you pour more money into an older car? If it was a 66 chevy, Id say yes! Look on Craigs List.Or even better,Car Gurus has a certain car locater search engine built right in.We are all sitting here typing, and typing so big brother can track what we are thinking about, and where were spending our $$$.
