Do I need to purchase a new turn signal switch if mine has stopped working? I'd rather try to fix what I have first if it's possible. Thank you.

Have you checked the turn signal flasher? Most times it is under the dash near fuse box. here is a pic of a new one but I believe yours could have a metal exterior.
