86 jeep xj 2.8 v6 manual 5 speed how tto remove center of trans case it is loose n moves 2-3 inches forward but cannot pull it off all the way need to inspect gears n synchros

trans is apart exceept center case will not slide clear off of gears any ideas on what to do acts like something inside is holding it moves back n forth but won't come clear off

did you remove the stud from the case? did you remove the snap rings from around the ft. main bearing and cluster gear?

snap rings r off nut is off stud it pulls part way through the piece wherre gears r mounted does it need clear out of case

sorry for not gettin back to ya sooner, Did you remove the stud? when the case seperates from center section, reach in with a pair of visegrips and remove stud. then case should come off. did you remove the back up lite switch?
