Engine Swap

Asked by David Feb 09, 2015 at 10:31 PM about the 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Question type: General

I have a 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Currently not passing smog, engine has 150k +
miles. I'm looking to fix this beast up to be reliable and to be able to pass smog. What
would be a good suggestion for swapping out for new, smog passing, engine? I have seen
some blogs for putting in a HEMI, but looking for input. Not afraid to spend money, but
still needs to be reliable.

I have heard that you can bolt a 4bt/6bt cummins up to the transmission after replacing the bellhousing with one from a dodge a727. They also make fuel injection kits for the 360, however I am unsure on how well that will improve smog
