Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can find out how much a 1957 VW Convertable completely remodeled to its original factory condition might be worth?

this question comes up alot. the value will mostly depend on your location. california has alot of vw's and therefore the prices are usually cheaper. it's just easier to find cars. here in the midwest they are harder to come by and the price goes up. same with the east coast. about the best classifieds is located on thesamba.com there they have hundreds (if not thousands) of vw's for sale all across the country (worldwide if you don't mind shipping!) check out their classifieds and see what like cars in your location (or close to you) are selling for. your biggest problem will be originality. when it comes to restorations of cars this old the pureist come out. their's not many people left that can restore a car correctly. all incorrect parts will drop the value to the pureist. such things are the front fenders (are they tube fenders?), the dash switches (are they all screw terminal switches), is the engine correct size and year, are the parts on the engine period correct or aftermarket, is the front beam number correct or is it aftermarket, upholstery correct material and stiching. these things matter in a restoration, but not so much for the normal person who just wants a bug. problem with that is the normal person will NOT pay much for a normal bug, a pureist WILL pay for a correct restoration.

If the restoration is top notch it would be worth $20.000 asking price. Even with a so-so restoration, if the car looks original (no holes in the dash, correct radio, etc) you would find stiff competition from bidders. Any 1957 is pretty rare, and you have a convertable.

Look at other cars for sale in Hemming's Motor News to get an idea of asking prices.
