Did the 1962 Volkswagen havw different insignias on the front? Like VW or Wolfsburg ?
I have a friend who had a 1962 Volkswagen bought new in 1962 as her vehicle. She said it had the VW emblem on the front. The 1962 "classic' just bought has a 'Wolfsburg' emblem. So were there 2 differnt emblems ?

Hello, Yes, it depended on the edition of the car. There were two different ones: the Volkswagen and the "Wolfsburg Edition." Wolfsburg Editions were available on several VW's, including the Beetle and Golf. Best of luck! CarGrrl
1962 was the last year that the Wolfsburg crest appeared on the hood above the handle. The correct version is the black background. In fact, 1962 was the only Beetle that carried both the Wolfsburg crest and a fuel gauge.
in 1962 there should be a round vw emblem on the upper part of the hood (by the windshield) and the hood should have a round raised portion where the vw emblem sits. there should be a chrome strip running down the hood toward the hood handle. just above the hood handle there should be a wolfsburg crest. this would be factory correct. NOW, there were some dealerships that installed a volkswagen script on the front hoods just to the side of the wolfsburg crest and sorta angled. this script is NOT identical to the volkswagen script on the rear of the car (decklid). completely different. this script is NOT factory, but a dealer installed option. still period correct, and very nice.

I owned a 1962 beetle with a ragtop sunroof and the hood had the longer metal strip that went down to the handle with NO wolfsburg Crest. I did my own research and found out that the correct version had the slightly shorter strip with the crest right above the handle so I went and bought the shorter strip and crest with the back plate but unfortunately by the time I was going to install them they stole my beautiful bug and wrecked it beyond repair.

P.S. I owned that great little car from 1970 to 1985 I changed the engine twice and added a Bosch 09 distributer and matching coil and that allowed me to advance the timing without the need for that vacuum gizmo that was attached to the stock distributor. The engine ran better with improved gas mileage. Loved that car immensely!
