average miles per gal?

Asked by reas1km Jul 09, 2008 at 10:52 PM about the 1964 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: General

I just bought a 64 beetle and wonder what the average miles/gal will be. Also would like to find a owner's manual but not sure where to look. Thanks!

the 1200 in your bug should get over 30 mpg look for bug meeting they have them all over get a bug magazine and it will list them

My 1200 gets about 26 MPG, which is about average IMO. As far as a manual goes, put the money out for a Bentley. The Idiot's Guide is always a great one, but there are some errors. The Bentley is more technical yet still easy to read and follow.

How long is a peice of string?? With a car that has been on the road for 44 years, there will be a large difference in power from when it first hit the road. ive seen aircool'ds kicking out at little as 12 hp from the original 44hp engine, and as such, your fuel consumption will be average specifically to your car... The best way to find out your mpg is by counting it... keep a note of how much you put in and how for you drive each time you fill up and pretty soon you will get an average mpg... If you are looking for workshop manual get a haynes manual... If you arent particularly mechanically minded, go onto some of the dub websites like volkszone and there are some excellent recomendations on there...

My 64's 1600 gets a decent 32. Of course I pulled my motor apart and cleaned/replaced everything. Proper maintenance is key to good mileage.
