rebuilt transmission

1969 VW bug; checking gears before I reinstall in car> Gears sequence great
but I noticed when I rotate main shaft the axel will rotate but on holding one no
resistance is felt (I can stop axel from rotating). If I grab both axle then I can
feel resistance. Is this the way it should be, OK to install?
