Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1970 VW bug, the car runs great except when coming to a stop the vehicle will want to stall, if I step on the gas pedal it will stay running any ideas what could be the problem?

Sounds like a carburetor issue or perhaps alternator/generator issue, RPMs not high enough or alternator brushes too worn to keep electrical power for the engine to stay alive at low RPMs.

When idling the rpm are ok the car does not die, only when I come to a stop. I'm going to go and get a new fuel filter today and try that. How can I test the alternator? I notice that one of the vaccum outlet is taped up with tape could this cause a problem with the stalling?

Hi redbug70 I also have the same problem with my 1970 vw bug. When it is idling good it stalls like yours does. I was wondering if you found what caused it and how you fixed it. Thanks in advance.
