The G light is the Generator light - all air-cooled Beetles have a generator for recharging the battery instead of a alternator! The generator also drives the fan that supplies air down onto the barrels (the finned items that the pistons run in) to keep them cool! Hope this helps! Joe

actually the generator was replaced by the alternator in 1973.
The light should go out when you give it a lil throttle.

its the charging indicator. "G" stands for generator, coz veedubs used to have generators and not alternators. if you see it light up, that means your charging system is not generating enough electricity.

So what needs to be done for it to stop turning on?
