Is it possible to manually start a 1973 VW Beetle by crossing the 2 posts on the starter with a screwdriver?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Still trying to get my bug running, I know the its getting power because the engine lights come on when the key is turned to start.  Also I would like to know if I take one of the back wheels off, can I get to the starter, and if so, which wheel?

It's the solenoid you're looking for and it's located behind the rear passenger tire. Once you find it, you can use a screwdriver (with a plastic grip) to start it but before you do that, put your bug in neutral and apply the emergency brake!! VERY important to remember that.
