I have a 1973 vw beetle and just changed the mechanic fuel pump but as soon as I did and turned it on it only ran for maybe a minute and then turned off. It seems like it's not getting any fuel

But I'm not sure why. Wondering if I
put the fuel pump on wrong or if
there is a problem with the fuel like
or dirt in the tank so that it can't get
sucked up. Thanks

Sounds like car started with gas left in carb bowl then died. I had a bug run out of gas once before and it took forever get gas back to the carb. Ended up taking a small hypodermic needle and shooting SMALL amounts of gas in the carb throat until it would run on its own. It helps to have a second person inside the car. A trick I learned from my Dad. Even now, 25 years later, I keep a couple in my tool box for hard to start season lawn eguipment. Or you can swap out the mechanical pump for an universal electric pump. They sell block off plates for the mechanical pump hole at the block.

Make sure you haven't reversed the inlet and outlet lines from the fuel pump.
