Hey guys can i take a vacuum advance distributor off and put a distributor with out one?

You must have a timing advance be it vacuum or spring-centrifugal, one or the other. You can't just do away with timing advance. If you mean a much later distributor from a fuel injected car without advance with EFI .... the timing advance is controlled by the ECU that you don't have

There used to be kits with weights & little springs for full advance at low rpm's for drag racing (Mr. Gasket) but I dont know about VW. And just dsconnect & block-off the vacumn tube with a little screw.
@JIMZ, you can't just disconnect and block off the vacuum advance and get it to run properly without properly setting up the distributor for mechanical advance. I'm with "jamnblues", make it work with the stock set-up.

Yes I know, thats a given when modifying a distributor! I'm an "old school" hot rodder @ 66 yrs. old, give me a break!
