Can I change the place of the battery from underneath the rear seat to the front trunk with an extended cable back to the engine in a 1974 beetle?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dear Sir, I find the place(underneath the back seat) of the battery in my 1974
beetle as a very big hassle especially that the back seat is in itself a hassle
to remove to reach the battery. So I was thinking to place it up in the very
front of the front trunk. I'm aware that the gas tank is their and that could be
a risk. But is it doable " technically" or is it too far to extends a cable from
front to back?  I've heard so many opinions but still not sure.
thank you.

Technically, you can relocate the battery. You would need to buy a battery tray and bolt it down. Then buy longer cables and run them back to the engine. I really don't think it would be worth the effort. I would recommend spending a little extra on a good quality battery and leave it where it is.

Buy a battery box to keep the battery and your car safe. The cables should probably be upgraded to #1 or #2 wire.
