Hi Chuck, when you turn. On the ignition are you seeing the battery light illuminated on the dash cluster? If no then you will need to trace out that wire for either a corroded connector or a break.that is a blue wire which is the alternator field excitor circuit ,there may be a single point connector in the engine compartment that is corroded, also you do need to be certain that the battery is in a 100% state of charge.make sure the terminals are clean and tight and that all ground connections are also clean and tight. If the battery light is good pretty good chances it's a bad alternator, good luck Chuck.

I had this problem checked everything. Finally decided to check wires connected to starter as it had been replaced at one point. Sure thing one of wires was loose. Tightened it and fixed problem. Its worth a shot. Good luck!
