Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Passat 1.9 TDI (B6) that sat stationary since it was bought like 10
years ago (it has 5200 KM on the clock) and this year I have started to use it
regularly, however I wonder if I should change the engine belt or not, so can
someone help me ?

Yes, the belt should be changed. Purchase a service manual on the vehicle and read the engine VW 1.9 timing belt replacement procedure several times. Next make sure you have all the necessary tools for this service then purchase ALL recommend replacement parts. Timing belt change is recommend on age and as you stated the vehicle has been in storage for 10 years!

After sitting that long, many things should be done- do the belt- but get a mechanic to do it- it is not easy to do correctly- the gas needs to be changed and the tank cleaned- also, diesels don't like to sit- the engine parts start corroding- you must spend a lot of money to get that thing back to reliability- I'm surprised it still runs-

diesel fuel usually lasts a lot longer then regular gas does but it would defiantly be a good idea to defunk the lines and filters. I would just check the belt and if it looks old frayed or cracked I would service it other wise I would just leave it. if the car has been sitting in a garage it should be fine. if its been sitting out in the sun all them years it most likely will need a lot of servicing to be very relaiable.
