Hard Starting Cabriolet

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an '87 VW Cabriolet that has been sitting for about 6 months. The
battery was dead so I replaced it.  The car is extremely difficult to start.
Usually I have to jump start with my truck because the battery will be
sucked dry.  Once I get the car started it runs fine.  When I turn off the car
and let it sit for a few minutes it starts.  However if the car sits for more than
a day, then it is extremely difficult to start, again.  Any ideas?

What engine is it? Could be mechanic (try a compression test) or just a tune-up/filters/sparkplugs/wires thing.

Could it possibly be the fuel accumulator? Is there a way to trouble shoot it?
