where do you put in the transmission fluid in the 1989 volkwagen cabriolet

The transmission fluid goes in the master cylinder. The easiest way to do this is to find your windshield wiper fluid container. There should be two lines going around this. One of them is about half an inch in diameter. It will lead to the master cylinder. If you have the manual to your car, it should contain a clear diagram of the engine. If not, just follow the lines. =)

Okay the trany fluid does not just go into the master cylinder. In the case that you have a straight shift look for the check and fill bolt on the trany. In the case of an automatic trany you can put the fluid in the dip stick hole. if it does not have a dip stick hole there will be a check and fill bolt on that trany too. the check and fill bolt should be located on the side of the trany. do not unbolt the plug on the bottom of the trany though that is just a drain bolt. A master cylinder is only used for hydro clutches and uses the fluid that releases and engages the throughout bearing.
