car does not start

Need more information on this one. Does it attempt to start (i.e., crank/turn over) or not?

Mine will act like its going to start and then not start its just not getting enough spark to fire up any ideas

Could be down to coil pack as they are fairly common fault on older vws, or even down to the distibutor or maybe even fuel pump. What engine is it?
