Check Engine Light doesn't go away

Asked by ssoto Jun 18, 2015 at 07:46 AM about the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe has the check engine light on.  I brought it to the mechanic
right away and they change the coil in cylinder 3.  Two days after the check engine light
was on again.  They changed the coil in cylinder 4 this time.  The next day, the check
engine light is on again.  Any thoughts that can help me.

If you haven't already...take it to the Hyundai dealership for repair. You may have a mechanic that just wants to replace parts and not find the cause of the problem.

Before you take it to Hyundai, Go to an Autozone or Advance Auto parts store or any other parts store like that. Most of them will put a code reader on the car for you and retrieve ALL codes stored at no charge. Write them all down exactly as the appear, Meaning Code # and EXACTLY what it says the code definition is. Post all codes here, exactly as they come up and we can help you much better. Point of info, is when doing the repairs, you must correct the 1st code on the list, disconnect the battery for 10 to 60 seconds, to erase the codes, then re-drive the car and eliminate ALL codes one at a time and clear the pc memory in the same manor, until all problems are gone. You can clear the memory with the coder reader/scanner in most cases, but experience has shown me that on many cars, if you do it by disconnecting the battery, you do NOT wipe out all memory info, just the current trouble codes and this way you avoiding having to drive the car within specific parameters to enable the car to relearn all the info it needs for all the input/output controllers on the car. Also, google "2007 Hyundai Santa Fe Recalls", because your car may have had a recall for a software update.
