Beeping while driving

My son has a 2007 Mazda 6 that occasionally
beeps while driving. It almost reminds me of
someone locking their car as it will have two
quick beeps followed by one not as quick. I
did notice today while it happened that the
lights on the dash like the mileage and
whatnot flashed on and off as the beeping
happened. The poor kid is devastated bc we
are broke and don’t know what is going on. I
should add that he was only given one
key/fob with purchase and the buttons didn’t
work then either. Please help.

Turn the knob on the instrument panel dimmer switch. It may be near the limit where it beeps. Turn it to the middle and see if the beeping goes away. It also might be a faulty switch too. Pick up another key and fob when you get some cash, in case you lose the original.

TDolby, I did turn the switch and it still happens. It almost sounds like someone is trying to lock the doors and when the beeping happens the numbers for the mileage turned off and back on. I would love to get another key but dealership said we’d have to get two and the keys with calibration would be about $500.
